Humphrey 0.2.0a

Humphrey's weekly update is now ready, fresh out of the oven! Version 0.2.0a brings with it a lot of changes and additions. Here are the biggest ones:

  • Redesigned map. The map is still a "kitchen sink" -- one big level to traverse, with many collectibles and areas to explore. It's not set in stone if the game will have one big level like this in the future, but for now this is the optimal way to test physics, power-ups and mechanics in general.
  • New options when you start the game, but before you press OK/Z. You can change Humphrey's colors, and enable powerups
  • Powerups. With powerups enabled, the version text turns yellow to reflect it, as well as a text on the result screen. This will mean it'd be its own speedrun category. But more importantly, here are what powerups do so far:
    • Eggs: Increase neck length. These stack!
    • Bobcat: Half vertical gravity everywhere.
    • Trampoleaf: Humphrey can't stand still, and will bounce as if every surface is a trampoline. The neck can now be controlled whilst airborne.
    • Juicy Peach: Humphrey bounces off walls. Combine with Trampoleaf for pinball mode?
    • More powerup effects to come
  • Insects can now also be caught by eating them. In the future, eating bees is probably a bad idea
  • SFX and fantastic lofi chip music from Gruber
  • More glorious pixel art by Amysaurus
  • And a whole lot of other fixes, changes and adjustments too boring to list
